To qualify to work at MedEx as a BLS or ALS Provider you must be a certified EMT-Basic, EMT-Intermediate/Advanced EMT, or Paramedic.

In addition to our EMT staff, MedEx relies on many individuals, such as Wheelchair Van Drivers, Dispatchers, Compliance Officers, and Billing and Administration staff to ensure that we continue to provide exceptional service.

Positions

Emergency Medical Technician (EMT)

An EMT is a specially trained medical technician certified to provide basic emergency medical care before or during transportation to a medical facility. The primary responsibility of the EMT is to respond to transport requests and provide Basic Life Support care and medical supervision as needed. EMTs have the basic knowledge and skills necessary to stabilize and safely transport patients ranging from non-emergency and routine medical transports to life threatening emergencies.

Advanced EMT

The primary focus of the Advanced Emergency Medical Technician is to provide basic and limited advanced emergency medical care and transportation. This individual possesses the basic knowledge and skills necessary to provide patient care at the Basic Life Support and Advanced Life Support level.

Paramedic

The Paramedic is a specially trained medical technician licensed to provide a wide range of emergency medical care before or during transport to a medical facility. Paramedics possess the complex knowledge and skills necessary to provide patient care and transportation at the most advanced levels. They are responsible for all aspects of care including medical evaluation, treatment and stabilization of critically ill and injured patients. Paramedics function under the oversight of a Medical Director, and are the highest-ranking Emergency Medical Technician recognized by the North Carolina Office of Emergency Medical Services.

Emergency Medical Responder

Emergency Medical Responders perform basic interventions and provide assistance to higher-level personnel, such as an EMT, Advanced EMT or Paramedic, and can serve as the driver for BLS and ALS ambulance transports.

Wheelchair Transport Specialist

A Wheelchair Transport Specialist provides transportation services for a disabled person that is wheelchair bound. Using a specially modified van that’s equipped with a lift and a mechanism to secure a wheelchair, the transport specialist will safely load the patient into the van, secure the patient’s wheelchair and transport the patient to and from their medical appointments. The team member will receive proper training on how to assist mobility-challenged individuals and various safety techniques before being released for duty.

Dispatcher/Telecommunicator

Dispatchers are responsible for obtaining and processing requests for ambulance and wheelchair transportation, determining nature/urgency of the calls, dispatching the appropriate level units and personnel, scheduling and input of future appointments, facilitating information flow between administrative staff and field personnel, and maintaining close contact with field crews to monitor the status of each transport. 

The Dispatcher position requires skilled individuals who are focused and team oriented,  possess strong critical thinking skills, excellent written and verbal communication skills, proficient computer skills, and knowledge of local geography.

Billing Specialist

Under the supervision of the Billing Manager, the Billing Specialists are responsible for the review, verification and coding of all Electronic Health Records. They work closely with the Quality Assurance and Compliance Department to ensure compliance with all rules and regulations pertaining to ambulance billing and coding. 

This position requires strong skills in computer literacy, medical terminology and team communication.
